CS Fundamentals (K-5)

Organization: Code.org

Format: CS Fundamentals integrated into (Math, ELA, Sci, SS, Library, etc.) instructional units comprised of 12 - 24 1-hr lessons integrated across K-5 curriculum.

Description: Students learn CS fundamentals by engaging in both online and offline CS activities.

Teacher Profile: No prior CS experience required

PD Plan: 1-day in-person PD and school year support

Cost to School: PD/Curriculum costs waived

Computer Access: Online activities can be accessed by computer, Chromebook or tablet

Creative Computing with Scratch Jr (K - 2)

Organization: Copernicus STEAM Learning Lab

Format: The format is flexible and will vary dependent on the course where Scratch Jr. is being integrated. Free curricula and more than 30 class projects are available to choose from. 

Description: Students use a drag and drop programming language (Scratch Jr.) to code, create, and share interactive stories, animations, games, music, and more as they learning problem solving and other fundamental CS concepts.

Teacher Profile: No prior CS experience required

PD Profile: 3 half days, 1 full day PD and 1 full day of CS Fundamentals (21+ hours), plus school year support.

Cost to School: PD costs waived for eligible educators.

Computer Access: Tablets or Chromebooks for Scratch Jr. and Tablets for Dash & Dot Robotics

Launch (K-5)

Organization: Project Lead The Way

Format: 80 hours of CS content integrated across grades K-5. In addition
to the CS curriculum, access is available to all 24 STEM modules.

Description:

PLTW’s entire K-12 CS experience involves interdisciplinary learning, exposing students not only to computer science, but to various disciplines and subjects, helping them understand how computer science relates to the world around them.

Teacher Profile:  No prior CS experience required

PD Profile: 2-day training for Classroom Teacher

Cost to School: Professional Development $500 per teacher (access to
all 24 modules) and school Annual Participation Fee $750 per school.

Computer Access: Access for all students & unplugged activities as well.
