Code4Kids: K-8 Computer Science Teacher Training
The Code4Kids Teacher Training prepares K-8 educators to confidently begin teaching Computer Science using the Code4Kids curriculum and online learning platform.
The live online professional development session lasts approximately 45–60 minutes and may be delivered to individual educators, school teams or district groups.
During the session, teachers log into Code4Kids and follow a guided walkthrough of the lessons, teacher resources, instructional materials and classroom tools they can use with their students.
Educators receive practical guidance on how to:
Introduce core Computer Science concepts
Facilitate Code4Kids lessons
Support students who are new to the subject
Manage classroom activities
Plan lesson pacing
Troubleshoot common student challenges
No previous Computer Science teaching experience is required. The goal is for every participant to leave the session ready to teach their first Code4Kids lesson.
In addition to the live training, participating educators can receive free access to the Code4Kids K-8 Computer Science curriculum and learning platform for an extended classroom pilot. This includes ready-to-use lessons, teacher guides, instructional presentations, student activities and online learning tools.
Participation in the professional development opportunity is funded through CS4RI and is available at no cost to participating Rhode Island educators. Code4Kids platform access and the classroom pilot are also provided at no cost during the pilot period.
